What is Parent Link?

Parent Link aims to help parents, schools and the education authority work together to meet children's educational needs.

Parent Link is here to listen to you and give advice and information about your child's education. It is:

  • free
  • confidential.

We can give you information, advice and details of other support available.

  • "My child is struggling at school. What can I do?"
  • "I can't cope. Where do I look for help?"
  • "How can I get my child back into school?"

Help from a volunteer

We may be able to put you in touch with one of our local volunteers (Independent Parent Supporter) who knows the system.

They can:

  • listen to how you and your child feel and what you want to achieve
  • provide information
  • explain how schools and the education authority can help your child
  • help you talk to teachers and professionals to sort things out for your child
  • help you fill out forms and help with letters etc
  • help you prepare for meetings and come with you, if you wish
  • tell you of your child's rights and your rights as a parent
  • help sort out disagreements.

Information on other support available.

All our volunteers are trained and supervised. Many of them are parents themselves.

Parent Link also provides:

  • parent information contacts (781k)- a person in your school that can help
  • choice advisers (109k) - help with moving to secondary school.
  • parent training
  • training for professionals
  • a range of help sheets
  • parent consultations.
