East Sussex Parent Link Service

Caring/Carers

A young person may be a primary carer (the main person in charge of looking after someone) or they may be a secondary carer - helping someone else, usually an adult, to care.

If your child has special needs you may be considered a carer yourself. If you are caring for a child with disabilities or special educational needs you may want to get in contact with social services for a carers assessment.

If you are not eligible for support from social services you may want to try Care for the Carers:
www.cftc.org.uk

Care for the Carers supports all those people in East Sussex who look after sick or disabled relatives, friends, neighbours, partners or children in their own homes.

They also provide a Young Carers Service, to support children and young people who have caring responsibilities, including some respite services.
